In this parable, Jesus is responding to the attitude of the Pharisees regarding the lost and trying to teach them about God’s heart. In this parable, Jesus confronts the common prejudices of His day between Jews and Samaritans. There was a palpable tension between the two and Jesus tells a story here that is meant to point out their bias and reveal God’s true definition of love for neighbor. This week we are studying a parable that discusses what defiles a person from Matthew 15:1-20. In this parable, Jesus is addressing common misunderstandings about the Mosaic Law—mainly the food laws. Jesus will explain that what goes in doesn’t make a person unclean, rather what comes out from the heart defiles them. Join us as we learn from Jesus’ teaching and apply it to our lives.
