Depravity: Unfaithful Jews Condemned | Romans 2:1-3:8
We are currently in a series called Romans: the Power of the Gospel. The apostle Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome has become a theological masterpiece for the church throughout the ages. He spends the first part of his letter explaining the gospel of God, starting with the doctrine of sin and depravity. In last week’s passage, he explained that pagan sinners stand condemned. Now Paul will clarify that unfaithful Jews also stand condemned because of their hypocrisy and disobedience to God. He wants them to know that neither their heritage nor their works can save them—they need a changed heart. Depravity: Pagans Condemned | Romans 1:18-32
A few weeks ago we started a new series called Romans: The Power of the Gospel. The first part of Paul’s letter to the Roman Christians contains his detailed description of the gospel. When read in context, the letter to the Romans shows how a right understanding of the gospel provides proper motivation to live the Christian life. Paul begins his explanation of the gospel by discussing human depravity. If the gospel is the power of God for salvation, Paul begins by explaining what humans need saving from. He explains that God is angry with pagan sinners because they suppress the truth and serve created things over the Creator. He explains that because of their hard hearts, God allowed mankind to chase their sinful passions which will lead to their destruction. Join us this week as we study Romans 1:18-32 learning truths about human depravity and applying those truths to our lives.
The Power of God for Salvation | Romans 1:1-17
Last week, we started a new series called Romans: The Power of the Gospel. This book is often considered a theological masterpiece because it provides the most comprehensive explanation of the gospel of God in the whole Bible. Throughout this letter, the author shows how a right understanding of the gospel provides proper motivation to live the Christian life. This week, we will begin our verse by verse study of the book. As we begin, we will learn that Paul, the author, is writing to the Christians in Rome expressing his gratitude for them, his desire to visit them, and his passion to unashamedly preach the gospel to them because the gospel is the power of God for salvation to those who believe. Listen in as we discover biblical truths and apply them to our lives.

Therefore, the purpose of this series is to rightly understand the gospel—what God has done for sinners—and how the gospel empowers Christians to walk in newness of life. The hope is that this study will increase our awe of God which will propel right living for Him. Join us this week as we begin the series by understanding the book as a whole and how the individual parts fit together.
